Case Study and Pilot Project Descriptions and Results
Prototype Case Study
SGTech developed a prototype on an Israeli dairy farm for proof of concept in 2016.
SGTech successfully tested its technology at this facility by treating ~2 m3/d (~530 gal/d) of influent waste containing 1-2% dry matter.
Prototype Case Study Results:
Influent (mg/L) |
Effluent (mg/L) |
Removal (mg/L) |
|
---|---|---|---|
TSS | 12,000 | 340 | 97% |
COD | 15,000 | 1,400 | 91% |
TKN | 800 | 150 | 81% |
TP | 180 | 38 | 79% |
Commercial Pilot Case Study
After its successful nutrient removal prototype, SGTech developed a commercial pilot scale-up (~15 m3/d, ~4,000 gal/d) in 2017 to further validate the IES technology.
The pilot was designed to treat the entire organic waste stream of a dairy farm (raw manure + milking parlor slurry).
The aim of this case study was dual:
- Test the technology’s robustness in a real waste treatment setting while monitoring both the nutrient recovery and biogas production.
- Verify the economical profitability of the technology.
The results are shown in the table below.
Parameter | Units | Influent | Effluent | Percent Removal |
---|---|---|---|---|
COD | mg/L | 40,000 | 2,000 +/- 400 | 95% |
TSS | mg/L | 25,000 | 700 +/- 30 | 97% |
TKN | mg/L | 1200 | 150 +/- 50 | 88% |
TP | mg/L | 230 | 55 +/- 13 | 76% |
Ammonia | mg/L | 600 | 10 +/- 5 | 98% |
pH | - | 6 | ~7.3 +/- 0.4 | - |
Research and Development Capabilities
-
In-houseSGTech operates an in-house laboratory with a lab-scale reactor in addition to its pilot-scale facility. This enables SGTech to conduct extensive R&D to further validate and innovate the IES process.
-
UniversitiesSGTech is partnering with multiple universities in Israel to conduct additional research and development experimentation. SGTech remains the sole owner of all IP generated through these endeavors.
-
Always InnovatingSGTech is committed to the continued innovation of its product offering and is aiming to apply for additional patents on the IES process in the coming year.
